Birt's Artist Reception

Vanguard member, Kristi Herring, will be honored with a reception displaying her work on Thursday, January 12th from 5:00-7:00 PM. This reception will be held at Birt's Bistro and Bookstore, 16752 N. Greasewood St; Surprise, AZ. Music will be provided by Kristi's son, Mark Ward, on guitar.

Kristi discovered watercolor painting when she retired from the working world 15 years ago. She loves portraits and enjoys capturing both the likeness and the personality of her subjects. Her current series, "At the Drop of a Hat", features portraits of people wearing their favorite chapeaux.

Earlier works in her diverse portfolio included a collection of paintings that depicted the proud culture of Native Americans, a series of elegant florals and whimsical pictures such as her "Fat Chicks" series. Recent commissioned works include illustrating several children's books.

Kristi is a member of the prestigious Vanguard Artists Group and has also exhibited at Benevilla's Chez Nous Center and Cafe.

ArtChix Sale

Please plan on attending the upcoming art show and sale by the ArtChix. This is a group of artists who are members of Sun City Grand Art Club as well as Vanguard Artists. The Vanguard members who will be in attendance with their artistic talents will be Barbara Lang, Ruth Malins, Sharon King and Susan Roper.

There will be paintings representing all media and styles, as well as artisan jewelry.

The sale will be held January 7th and 8th, from 9:00-4:00 on Saturday and 9:00-3:00 on Sunday. It will be at the SCG Art Club:

Thank you all....

....for the condolences and best wishes sent to me following the death of my mother. My brother, sister and I had her as a presence in our lives for longer than most have their mothers, but it is never easy to let them go. Her name was Edith Patterson and she would have been 92 years old in February, 2012.

Thank you for your friendship and support during this difficult time.

Margaret Osburn's Display

Margaret Osburn displayed two paintings this summer at the west Valley Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic; 14877 W Bell Road in Surprise.

She reports that Dr. James Osbourne purchased her 16 x 30 inch watercolor entitled "Sunday Sail".

Lord of Life Lutheran Church Exhibit

The lovely paintings by Vanguard members Pat Knorr, Val Anderson and Karen Walsh are on display at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West (corner of Meeker and RH Johnson) from August 2 to October 31.

Judy Lawson reports the following...congrats Judy!

My painting On Stage was selected for the AWA Spring Exhibition at the Burton Barr Library.  This show has been on for a while and ends April 29th.  But, you still have time to view the exhibit located on the 2nd floor .  The library is at 1221 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix.  Tom Francesconi was the juror.

New Happenings in the Art World of Kristi Herring

Vanguard member, Kristi, has informed me of two recent opportunities in her art world that bear mentioning, to say nothing of Congratulations!

Thirty of her paintings are currently on exhibit at Chez Nous in Sun City West, this is through the Sun City West Art Club. Do stop by and see this grouping of her work.

Kristi is now working on illustrating her third children's book. She has been selected by two different authors to illustrate their books, the latest being a psychologist who is writing a book on child abuse. What a noble cause to be contributing to; we are proud of you Kristi!

The Public is invited and encouraged to attend the ANNUAL ART SHOW of the PALO VERDE ARTISTS in Sun City  from 9am to 3pm, Friday and Saturday, March 25^th and 26^th, in the Club's Art Room in the SunDial Recreation Center located at Boswell Blvd. and 103^rd Ave.  

The show will include recent works in all types of two-dimensional media, from Watercolors to Oils, from Pencil Drawings to Pastels and a variety of Mixed Media. Attendees of the show will be invited to vote for their favorite and the winner will be given the People's Choice Award on Sunday afternoon.

This year's judge will be  nationally-known artist, Marilyn Schutzky, whose work has been juried into over 100 group and major exhibits throughout the country.
